The SBP Open Season Ends January 1!!

For Retirees,


Congress provided for a Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) Open Season in the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The opportunity to enroll or discontinue SBP coverage during the SBP Open Season ends at midnight on January 1, 2024.


SBP Open Season Enrollment and Discontinuance Forms must be RECEIVED by DFAS before midnight Eastern on January 1, 2024.


It is strongly recommended that you upload your form via our ask DFAS online upload tool to ensure we receive it prior to the deadline.


Final postal mail delivery before the deadline is on Friday, December 29, 2023. If you are mailing a form, it is recommended you use mail service with proof of mail date. If your form is received in the mail after the January 1, 2024 deadline, you will need to provide proof it was postmarked or otherwise provided to the mail service prior to midnight on January 1, 2024.  You can also fax us your form prior to the deadline.


Remember to fill out your form completely, sign and date the form, and get notarized concurrence where necessary.


Please note: The 2023 NDAA SBP Open Season does not allow for CHANGES to existing SBP coverage.
